A charter school acquired a Newmarket site where construction of a $55 million high school is under way.

Roxbury Prep Charter School paid $5.4 million for the 69-71 Proctor St. site, which is approved for 4-story, 83,000-square-foot school for a projected enrollment of 800 students.

Designed by SMMA architects, the school will replace Roxbury Prep’s existing high school locations at 1286 Hyde Park Ave. and 2179 Washington St.

The property was placed under agreement in May 2021 and received approval from the Boston Planning & Development Agency last September. Boston Realty Advisors Managing Director Chris McMahon represented the school in the transaction.

The project team includes general contractor Suffolk Construction, owner’s project manager DBI Projects, QPD LLC, Brown Rudnick LLP, Stantec Nitsch Engineering and GZA GeoEnvironmental.
