Choice Fitness has leased 16,000 feet of former warehouse space at the Merrimac Plaza in Methuen.
The space, behind a former A.J. Wright retail store off Haverhill Street, had been vacant for nearly 10 years, according to the Madden Group, which represented Choice Fitness in the transaction.
The shopping center is owned by a partnership of Merrimack Income Partners LP and Quincy-based Dickinson Development, which spent about $75,000 on electrical and sewer line upgrades to prepare the space for the fitness center, according to a statement.
Choice Fitness has another Methuen location, as well as facilities in Haverhill and North Andover.
Dickinson said the shopping center now has no vacancy. Other tenants include: Market Basket, Plaza Liquors, Dollar Tree, Dr. Dental, Game Stop, Metro PCS/Real Wireless, Papa Gino’s and Chef Co’s Restaurant. Freestanding buildings at the plaza are home to McDonald’s, Dunkin Donuts, a UPS Store and Bank of America.
