Liberty MutualA groundbreaking is set today for Liberty Mutual’s expansion into Boston’s Back Bay neighborhood.

The company’s new 22-story, 590,000-square-foot office building will be located at 157 Berkeley St.

The $300 million expansion project of the insurer’s worldwide headquarters will add 600 full-time positions, and create an additional 500 construction jobs.

Liberty Mutual Group Chairman and CEO Edmund F. Kelly will be joined today at 11 a.m. at the corner of Berkeley Street and Columbus Avenue by Gov. Deval Patrick, Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino, other state and city elected officials, neighborhood representatives and members of the construction trades, according to a statement.
