Holyoke-based PeoplesBank has been named a Globe Top Places to Work by The Boston Globe. The bank received the recognition after a comprehensive survey of its employees was performed by an independent research organization selected by the publication.

"In order for people to feel engaged, they need to feel as if the company cares about them – not only that we expect them to get the work done and serve the customers, but that we care about them individually, that we care about their families, and that we care about the community where they work and live," said Janice Mazzallo, senior vice president of human resources at PeoplesBank, in a statement. According to Mazzallo, the bank has created a management development program, and an in-house learning center, as well as sponsoring employee-led think tanks, and trying to create an optimal life-work balance  in order to better foster employee engagement.

According to the bank, it is the only  business in Western Massachusetts to be named a Top Place To Work. It has also recently received an award from the Massachusetts Chamber of Commerce as an Employer of the Year and it has been named a Boston Business Journal Top Corporate Charitable Contributor.
