harbor_oneNext Friday, the Prime Minister of Cape Verde, Jose Maria Neves, will be visiting HarborOne’s MultiCultural Banking Center to learn more about how Cape Verdeans on the South Shore have benefited from the programs and resources offered at the Brockton-based credit union.

The MultiCultural Banking Center at 68 Legion Parkway will celebrate its third anniversary this month. It provides education and other resources to help those most affected by predatory financial practices including subprime lending, payday lending and check cashing services, low and moderate income residents, minorities and immigrants.

In addition to financial literacy, credit coaching and home ownership preparation in four languages, the center also offers courses such as English for Speakers of Other Languages, Computer Basics and Citizenship Test preparation.

More than 3,000 people have attended programs at the center. It has received praise and recognition from around the country. In February, HarborOne received the Credit Union Foundation’s Wegner Award for Outstanding Organization. In 2008, credit union leaders from Kenya visited the center, according to a statement.
