Newton’s Senior Housing Properties Trust has reported net income of $31.8 million for the quarter ended March 31, up from $30 million in the same period in 2010.

Net income for the quarter ended March 31 includes a non cash impairment of assets charge of $166,000 related to two properties.

Funds from operations (FFO) also rose to $62.1 million for the quarter ended March 31, compared to $54.8 million in FFO for the same period last year.

Since Jan. 1, the company has acquired or entered agreements to acquire 33 properties for an aggregate purchase price of approximately $450.5 million, including the assumption of $79 million of mortgage debt and excluding closing costs.
