When the new Senior Center opens in Amesbury’s lower millyard in 2012, the hub of activity will be The Provident Bank Room – made possible by a leadership pledge of $50,000 from the Provident Community Foundation.
"We view this contribution as an investment in the health, vitality and independence of today’s senior citizens. In fact, this is actually a gift to all Amesbury residents who will benefit from having this beautiful new facility," said Charlie Cullen, The Provident Bank’s president and CEO. "We are pleased to have the opportunity to kick off this capital campaign, and honored that The Provident Bank will be remembered for its service to the community every time the room is used."
"The Provident Community Foundation’s generous donation will fund the purchase of tables, chairs, flatware, plates, other furnishings, projection equipment, wireless Internet connectivity and interior decorations for the new Senior Center’s great room," said Betty Dion, president of the Friends of the Amesbury Council on Aging. "To show our gratitude and appreciation for all that The Provident Bank does for our community, we are proud to permanently name the great room The Provident Bank Room."
The Friends of Amesbury’s Council on Aging has launched a capital campaign to raise $250,000. The funds will be used to furnish and equip the new Senior Center, which will be located within the Senator Nicholas J. Costello Transportation Center.
"The Provident Bank’s pledge is the first we’ve received during the campaign’s Name That Room phase," said David Hildt, chairman of the Friends’ Capital Campaign. "This is clearly another demonstration of the Foundation’s continuous support for the great work of a wide range of organizations meeting the needs of our community, from health care and education to child care and the arts."
