A wealthy Quincy real estate developer has pleaded not guilty to charges of aggravated child rape, paying a fee for sex and cocaine trafficking, which carry up to 10 years in prison.
William O’Connell, 71, was arraigned in Quincy District Court on Monday and quickly posted $150,000 in bail. He was ordered to have no unsupervised contact with any child under 16, submit to random drug tests and remain in Massachusetts.
Norfolk County District Attorney Michael Morrissey has assigned the case to a special prosecutor from Boston, Andrew DiCarlo Berman.
Police searching O’Connell’s condominium in March found about 19 grams of cocaine, an amount qualifying for a drug trafficking charge.
O’Connell did not comment after the arraignment.
In 2003, O’Connell was sentenced to six months of probation after a boat he was piloting struck and killed another man. (AP)
