Using its modular construction system GreenStaxx, Oaktree and R.J. Finlay & Co. have completed 30 Haven St. in Reading, the first modular multifamily housing and mixed-use development in downtown Reading, according to a statement.
Greg Bialecki, Massachusetts Secretary of Housing and Economic Development, praised the project as a model for other Chapter 40R zoning districts.
"Our state’s economic development strategy includes producing more housing for a growing workforce," Bialecki said in the statement. "Chapter 40R is one tool that communities can use to plan ahead for housing. The Reading Downtown Smart Growth District is a model Chapter 40R zoning district, and [Oaktree and R.J. Finlay & Co.] development is an excellent example of what can be achieved when rental housing is near jobs and transit, while bolstering the economic vitality of our town centers."
The project includes 53 apartments, 22,000 square feet of retail space and an underground parking garage for 78 cars.
