REBA LogoThe Real Estate Bar Association for Massachusetts’ (REBA) has voted unanimously to support "Vote No on 2," an initiative to protect the Massachusetts Affordable Housing Law.

"This referendum would eliminate the Commonwealth’s primary tool to create affordable housing for seniors and working families without providing any alternatives," REBA said in a statement. "On some accounts, [the Massachusetts Affordable Housing Law] has created 58,000 homes across the state and is responsible for approximately 80 percent of new affordable housing over the past decade, outside of the larger cities."

If the referendum is passed, it is possible that 12,000 homes that have already been locally approved would be jeopardized, REBA said in a statement.

Voters will have a chance to cast their own ballot on the issue on Nov. 2.
