Boston CollegeChestnut Hill, home of Boston College, is one of the most expensive college towns in the nation, according to a new report by Coldwell Banker Real Estate LLC.

The report, which provides the average home listing price of four-bedroom, two-bathroom properties listed for sale between April and September on coldwellbanker.com in markets home to the 120 schools in the Football Bowl Subdivision, found the average home in Chestnut Hill costs $791,408.

Chestnut Hill, which is also home to Pine Manor College, ranked fifth.

"The College HLR helps bring attention to all the great attributes of college towns," said Rick Loughlin, president of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage New England. "Here in Chestnut Hill, we have seen a considerable increase in home sales and median home prices this year."

Coldwell Banker Real Estate’s College Home Listing Report (College HLR) found almost two-thirds of the markets studied have homes priced less than $250,000.

Muncie, Ind., home to Ball State University, is the No. 1 most affordable market in the College HLR, where the average home price for a four-bedroom, two-bathroom home costs $105,115. The most expensive market is Palo Alto, Calif., home to Stanford University, where the same size home averages at more than $1.3 million.
