Jobs in the mortgage sector nationwide went from a net gain in 2009 to a net loss last year, according to a recent report from MortgageDaily.com.

In 2010, there were only 10,300 hires in real estate finance compared to 13,400 layoffs. There were nearly 31,000 hires in 2009 compared to 22,578 layoffs.

The large drop in hirings was responsible for the overall deterioration in mortgage sector jobs, according to the report. Many of the jobs created in 2009 were added to help a growing number of delinquent borrowers.
