The Roxbury Tenants of Harvard (RTH) held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday to celebrate the opening of its new Community Center on Vining Street in Boston’s Mission Hill neighborhood.

The RTH Community Center is a 28,000-square-foot facility with a full-size indoor basketball court, wellness center, meeting rooms, youth lounge and a computer lab. RTH plans to use the space to expand its youth development program, after-school program, senior services and indoor recreation opportunities as well as host assemblies for larger gatherings.

Nearly 400 people attended the ceremony, which included a Lion dance, performances by RTH residents and comments from residents, public officials, project sponsors and lenders.

The project was financed by a $4.3 million community improvement grant from Brigham and Women’s Hospital, $2 million in New Markets Tax Credit equity from Massachusetts Housing Investment Corp. in partnership with U.S. Bank CDC and RTH’s retained earnings.

The project team consisted of Traggorth Cos. of Boston, Steffian Bradley Architects of Boston, NEI General Contractors of Randolph and Munkenbeck Consulting of Cambridge.
