A Salem Five senior vice president was recently elected district governor of Rotary International District 7930 for the 2013–2014 term.

John Hall, also manager of Salem Five’s commercial banking division, will be responsible for supporting and expanding membership, fundraising and increasing general awareness of the nonprofit in his community.

As district governor, Hall will preside over the region north and west of Boston to New Hampshire, covering 48 clubs with more than 2,000 members. He will be supported by 13 assistant governors and will meet with each club and their boards to assist with fundraising and community service and humanitarian initiatives.

One of Hall’s goals during his year-long tenure will be the raising of $250,000 for the Rotary International Foundation, which funds humanitarian projects around the world. Among its achievements over the past 26 years, the organization counts its efforts to eradicate polio, which is now endemic to only three countries.

Hall has been a Rotary Club member since 1998 and previously served on a club president, assistant governor and member of its board of directors. The Salem Rotary Club, where Hall served as president in 2009 – 2010, donates more than $45,000 in local scholarships each year. The club has recognized him with the Paul Harris Fellow Award and in 2013, Hall was awarded the “Community Service Award” by the Salem Chamber of Commerce for his years of service to the community.
