Santander Names Grundhofer Chairman Of The Board

Jerry A. Grundhofer has been appointed non-executive chairman of the board of Santander Holdings USA Inc., which owns Sovereign Bank.

Grundhofer’s appointment is effective Friday. He replaces Gabriel Jaramillo in this role, according to a statement.

"In the past two years, Sovereign has experienced significant progress and is well-positioned to continue on its path to growth," said Banco Santander Chairman Emilio Botin. "Jerry’s role as chairman is opportune as Sovereign enters this new phase in its long-term plan."

Grundhofer most recently served as chairman of Citibank’s board of directors.
