Dorothy Savarese, Cape Cod Five Cents Savings Bank’s president and CEO, has been named the 2013 Mercy Otis Warren "Cape Cod Woman of the Year." 

Per the selection committee, the award is presented annually to a woman who "is a resident of Cape Cod and has demonstrated leadership in the Cape Cod community and has made a significant contribution to any of the following:  the arts, education, business, community involvement embracing the ideals of patriotism." 

Savarese is Cape Cod Five Bank’s first female president and CEO. She was nominated for the award by Lynne Poyant, a prior recipient of the award and director of community services for the town of Barnstable.

 "To have my name even mentioned in the context of Mercy Otis Warren, a woman of great courage who was so very far ahead of her times is incredibly humbling," Savarese said in a statement. "It is an honor to be associated with a woman who remains inspirational today, not only for her staunch patriotism and support of the American Revolution, but also for her work in advocating for the importance of women in society."
