After landing big leases from Amazon and Foundation Medicine in Boston’s Seaport District, WS Development is seeking approval to accommodate more commercial tenants.
The Chestnut Hill developer is proposing a 422,000-square-foot office and/or lab building on Block N at 350 Summer St. in its 12.5-acre master-planned development. The parcel had previously been designated for residential use under the Seaport Square master plan, which was amended in 2017.
“The proponent expects to secure commitments from one or more major office and/or research and development tenants for Block N,” WS Senior Vice President Yanni Tsipis wrote in a notice of project change filing with the Boston Planning and Development Agency.
The changes would reduce the housing component of the overall project by 350,000 square feet. The remaining housing would be built on blocks G and L3, WS said, and will include more smaller and lower-priced units, but the overall number of units would remain changed at 3,200.
Approximately 2,000 of the 3,200 housing units in the Seaport Square project have been completed or are under construction, including the $950 million EchelonSeaport towers.
WS said it will submit a $7.5 million payment toward a performing arts center, and make a $1 million voluntary contribution to the city’s inclusionary development policy fund along with $3 million in required linkage payments.
