A man from Fall River, who robbed four Massachusetts banks in five days, was apprehended while trying to rob a fifth bank, and was sentenced to four years and six months in prison.

William Sequeira, 60, was sentenced by US District Court Judge Patti B. Saris to 54 months in prison and three years of supervised release, the Massachusetts U.S. Attorney’s Office said. Sequeira pleaded guilty to four counts of bank robbery and one count of attempted bank robbery in June.

Between Sept. 26 and Sept. 30 last year, Sequeira robbed four separate banks in the Fall River and Boston areas, brandishing a gun and threatening bank tellers, demanding to get $100 bills. The branches include:

  • Citizens Bank branch inside the Stop & Shop on Rodman Street in Fall River, robbed on Sept. 26
  • Santander Bank branch on Berkley Street in Boston (Sept. 27)
  • M&T Bank branch on Boylston Street in Boston (Sept. 28)
  • TD Bank branch on Union Street in Boston (Sept 30)

Sequeira was arrested by law enforcement officers on Oct. 5, 2022 when he attempted to rob a Citizens Bank branch on Boylston Street in Boston after they staked out the branch, suspecting that Sequeira was planning another robbery, prosecutors said.
