Seven development teams have signaled their interest in building a 1,000-room hotel across the street from the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.

The hotel project is contingent upon the state legislature’s approval of a 1.3 million-square-foot expansion of the convention center. The hotel would be built on two properties leased from Massport at the corner of Summer and D Streets totaling five acres.

The Massachusetts Convention Center Authority projects that its existing trade show hall will generate demand for an all-time high of 434,000 hotel room nights in 2017, up from 336,000 this year. It’s also sponsoring the development of the 180-room Element and 330-room Aloft hotels, which will built on land leased from the authority on D Street and operated by Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide.

The development teams for the so-called "headquarters hotel" submitted statements of qualifications last week to the state agencies. The project contains an option for an additional 200 rooms, either as an expansion or a separate building.

The Fallon Co. of Boston and Capstone Development submitted two proposals, one partnering with Hilton and Conrad Hotels, and another with Marriott Marquis.

The Drew Co. of Boston, which completed the 236-unit Waterside Place apartment tower that opened in South Boston in February, named Hilton and Salamander Hotels and Resorts as partners.

A team comprised of The Davis Cos., Spot on Ventures, Garfield Public/Private and Taylor Smith submitted two proposals, one with Hilton and the other with Starwood Hotels & Resorts.

MGM Resorts, Davenport Cos. and MGM Hakkasan Hospitality named MGM Grand and Skylofts as their hotel operators. Extell Development Co. submitted a proposal with Hyatt.

Rida Development Corp., CV Properties, Primary Corp. and Ares Management submitted two proposals, with Hilton and Marriott Marquis. Omni Hotels & Resorts would develop and operate the hotel under its own brand.

Massport and the MCCA will ask qualified applicants to submit requests for proposals later this year if the convention center expansion is approved, the agencies said. The goal is to complete the project by late 2018.

In a statement, Massport CEO Thomas Glynn said the headquarters hotel would generate 2,200 construction jobs and up to 900 permanent positions.
