The building business unit of contractor and construction management company Skanska USA has been awarded a $48 million contract from Massport to renovate and expand Terminal C at Boston’s Logan International Airport.
This project will include the construction of a consolidated baggage check point in Terminal C, as well as additional shell space that will connect the building with future development, the company said in a statement. Skanska will also replace the main ticketing hall and entire HVAC system in the terminal. Work on the HVAC system includes the installation of sprinklers, lighting, a new ceiling, and various electrical and telecommunications systems.
Terminal C serves five airlines including JetBlue Airways and AirTran Airways. In addition to the construction services, Skanska said it will also provide preconstruction services consisting of cost estimating, scheduling, phasing and logistics, value engineering and document review to support the preparation of trade packages and constructability reviews.
In 2008, Skanska served as the construction manager for the redevelopment of Delta Air Lines’ Terminal A at Logan, which was the first airport terminal in the country to receive LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).
"Work will require extensive coordination in order to minimize disruption to passengers, exemplifying our ability to complete a complex renovation and expansion in an airport setting," said Paul Hewins, Skanska general manager and executive vice president, who oversees Skanska USA’s New England region.
