Business owners across the country are looking to Massachusetts for hints of what the new health care law will bring.

Massachusetts has a state law that offered a blueprint for the national overhaul. Both laws require businesses to shoulder more of the burden of health coverage.

The Massachusetts law requires businesses with 11 or more workers to offer insurance or pay a fine of $295 per worker.

The national law hits employers with 50 or more workers with fees if the government subsidizes their workers’ coverage. That fee is $2,000 per employee.

The federal law also offers tax credits for an estimated 3.6 million small businesses starting this year.

Some Massachusetts business owners have grumbled about the law, but there’s little evidence that it’s forced any businesses here to close. (AP)
