Runners will have the opportunity to view Somerville’s Assembly Row development on Sunday, Aug. 18 at the neighborhood’s first annual road race, Race to the Row 5K.

The race route will take participants on the first official self-guided tour of the new neighborhood. Runners will follow the outer edge of the development, tracing the Mystic River at one point, and finish at an outdoor BBQ from Burger Dive in Somerville’s newest waterfront park. At the park, participants will be able to see the development of the area’s new restaurants, shops, office space, apartments and Orange Line T station.

All funds raised from the race will be donated to East Somerville Main Streets (ESMS), a nonprofit that strives to bring business development to East Somerville.

"Having a large, visible event in a new part of Somerville is important in establishing a sense of tradition and character for the neighborhood," Carrie Dancy, executive director of East Somerville Main Streets, said in a statement. This is exactly what we are striving for in our area and throughout the city- rebuilding communities through pride. We are excited to be part of a new tradition for the Eastern part of the City – and honored to be the recipient of this race."
