A pair of apartment buildings designed by renowned architect Benjamin Thompson are part of a portfolio that sold for $27.5 million in Boston’s South End.

New England Realty Associates of Allston acquired three properties totaling 52 units from Boston-based Rutland Housing LP.

Two of the buildings at 26-30 Rutland St. and 105-117 West Concord St. were completed in 1973 and designed by Thompson, the founder of The Architects Collaborative of Cambridge. The firm was a leader in modernist architecture and designed the transformation of Faneuil Hall Marketplace from wholesale to retail space.

The deal also included 475 Shawmut Ave. The buildings include 9,027 square feet of retail and commercial space.

Hunneman’s Carl Christie and Dan McGee represented the seller and procured the buyer.

The purchase price is equivalent to nearly $529,000 per unit.
