The new men’s restrooms have opened at South Station.
With the opening of the restrooms on Feb. 17, Equity Office has completed the second phase of the station’s restroom renovations. New women’s restrooms opened in November.
Additional security and signage will be in place to direct commuters to the new area, which is located at the site of the former women’s restroom. Fixtures in the restroom will increase to 18 from 14.
"The construction team at South Station is proud to deliver the newly renovated men’s restroom. We thank commuters and travelers for their patience," said Mark Smith, market managing director at Equity Office, said in a statement. "Once the entire project is complete, we look forward to [a] new era for South Station in which commuters and travelers experience a high-quality shopping, eating and dining environment, to enhance their experience while traveling through this landmark travel hub."
Construction is underway at the station for a two-story CVS/pharmacy scheduled to open in June 2014. Gilbane Building Co. has been contracted to carry out the landlord improvements in South Station.
