Pink south stationTravelers will be seeing pink when they pass Boston’s South Station this weekend.

Equity Office Properties (EOP) has teamed with Blue Outdoor to illuminate the city’s transportation hub with pink LED lights this weekend and throughout the month of October to support breast cancer awareness month. The event is in conjunction with the Philips global illumination relay, part of the company’s Breast Cancer Awareness campaign.

South Station is one of 100 landmarks around the world, and 12 sites in Boston, that will be illuminated with Blue October’s pink lights this month. Other participating sites in Boston include Prudential Tower, TD Garden and Atlantic Wharf.

Blue Outdoor’s lighting is designed by Philips Color Kinetics, a division of Philips specializing in dynamic LED lighting systems. The digitally controllable LED lighting system that lights the façade of South Station has the capability of producing custom light shows from a palette of more than 16 million colors. The first phase of South Station’s lights was installed in April, and the full installation is expected to be completed in early 2014.
