Marlborough-based St. Mary’s Credit Union has donated $3,500 to Special Olympics Massachusetts.

The credit union contributed $2,500 for programmatic support and an additional $1,000 to help fund the trip of Special Olympics athlete Matt Millet, who will represent the U.S. in South Africa.

Millett is one of 16 Special Olympics athletes that will represent all 3.3 million Special Olympics athletes worldwide during the Unity Cup at Cape Town Stadium in South Africa, on July 3, prior to a quarterfinal match of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

"St. Mary’s Credit Union has already shown us that they truly understand our mission and how important it is to people with intellectual disabilities, said Robert Johnson, president and CEO of Special Olympics Massachusetts. "With their overall support and that of Matthew Millet’s trip to South Africa, we have found a true friend with St. Mary’s Credit Union."

"We are so proud to have Special Olympics Massachusetts as our new neighbor here in Marlborough," said Jack Caulfield, president and CEO of St. Mary’s Credit Union. "Supporting our local communities is just one of many ways we distinguish ourselves. We’re pleased to support the mission of Special Olympics."
