St. Mary’s Credit Union plans to open a new branch in Westborough at 96 Turnpike Road at the site of a former Friendly’s Restaurant.  Work should be completed by mid-2013.

"This site will allow us to better serve our members in both Westborough and Southborough," James Petkewich, vice president of retail services for St. Mary’s said in a statement.  "It will also support our growth strategies by providing access to a thriving and growing market for retail and commercial business." The newest branch includes approximately 3,000 square feet of space and includes a drive-up service window, a drive-up ATM, a coin counting machine, a night deposit box and a distinctive tower that will serve as a landmark at the busy intersection of routes 9 and 30.

The branch will also feature a "Dialogue Banking" floor plan, which is an alternative approach to banking from traditional teller lines and service desks.  This design allows credit union staff to provide more personal consultative service to its members. Mansfield-based NES Group designed the branch.

"This progressive design concept has been successfully used by many credit unions throughout New England and across the United States," said Gregg Rosen, president of NES, in a statement.

The credit union plans to hold a groundbreaking ceremony on Dec. 11 with members of the town of Westborough board of selectmen, Town Manager Jim Malloy, and the Corridor Nine Area Chamber of Commerce.
