The state’s unemployment rate decreased from 7.6 percent in July to 7.4 percent last month, according to the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development.

Preliminary August job estimates show a decrease of 8,900 jobs during the month, which the state attributed mostly to 6,100 striking information sector workers.

Year-to-date job growth has proceeded at a rate of about 1.5 percent.
