Boston’s architectural and engineering firms are healthier now than at any time since the start of the Great Recession, according to new reports from Woburn-based DiCicco, Gulman & Co.

The Architectural Study and the Engineering Report benchmark financial performance and other key indicators based on input from more than 40 national firms headquartered in the Greater-Boston area. Firms experienced increases in profits and hiring, made investments in infrastructure and saw growth in the volume of their business, according to the studies.

"Nearly every firm surveyed did better in 2012 than they did in 2011," Chad DaGraca, a partner in the firm’s architecture and engineering practice, said in a statement. "These are signs of a true recovery."

One reason for the improvement is renewed activity in the private sector as well as the fact that the residential housing market has stabilized and is improving in certain markets across the country, according to information from the firm.

"Companies are spending money because they have more confidence in the overall direction of the economy," DaGraca said in a statement.
