Suffolk Construction has been awarded a $21.5 million contract from the University of Massachusetts Building Authority to manage construction on a new bioprocessing facility for the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.
The 38,000-square-foot facility will be part of the 10-acre SouthCoast Biopark in Fall River. It will serve as an incubator space for small life-science companies, allowing them to test out new bio-manufacturing processes and generate new therapeutic materials for pre-clinical testing.
The state-of-the-art facility will include a suite of laboratories, a warehouse, laboratory support spaces, lecture rooms and offices.
Suffolk will work with Elkus Manfredi Architects on the project. The plans call for the building to be LEED-Certified and include a small cogeneration system. Construction will begin in April, and is set to finish next year.
