The Massachusetts economy grew at a record pace in the third quarter after an historic fall this spring when the COVID-19 pandemic hit and prompted widespread business closures, but economists say that upswing has started to slow and employment remains well below pre-pandemic levels.
Wage and salary growth boosted real gross domestic product in Massachusetts by 4 percent in the second quarter of 2017, outpacing real GDP growth in the U.S. of 2.6 percent during the same period.
The U.S. economy slowed less than initially thought in the first quarter, but there are signs it could struggle to rebound sharply in the second quarter amid slowing business investment and moderate consumer spending.
