Massachusetts will retain all nine of its U.S. House seats following the release of new Census Bureau data Monday that showed the state’s total population topping 7 million for the first time, up from 6.5 million in the 2010 census.
Massachusetts added 9,868 people in the last year, according to new figures from the U.S. Census Bureau
The state’s U.S. Census liaison is reporting “encouraging numbers” about population growth ahead of next year’s Census, with the largest population increases since the 2010 Census in the cities of Boston, Cambridge, Somerville, Everett and Lowell.
Massachusetts is the fastest growing state in the Northeast — with many of its newest residents coming from other countries.
