TG Gallagher, an HVAC, plumbing and fire alarm contractor, has begun work on a new, 165,000-square-foot dorm for the University of Massachusetts Lowell (UMass Lowell), for which it will provide HVAC and plumbing services.
TG Gallagher is collaborating with general contractor Lee Kennedy Co Inc. (LKCo.) and Neshamkin French Architects, Inc. on the design-build project, which will provide additional housing for 510 students as the school transitions to a resident-based university.
The new six-story contemporary-style apartment building will house UMass Lowell’s only on-campus suites, featuring either two or three double-occupancy bedrooms, a kitchen, a common area, and one or two fully-equipped bathrooms. The residences also include parking, a fitness area and locker rooms, laundry machines, and conference rooms to facilitate group interaction. The new building is expected to be completed in August 2013, in time for the University’s fall semester.
