The recent 65,000-square-foot renovation of The Forsyth Institute’s new headquarters and research facilities, which was designed by ARC/Architectural Resources Cambridge, has received LEED Silver certification.
The design team, led by ARC, developed sustainable goals to reuse existing materials, walls and mechanical systems within the renovated spaces of The Forsyth Institute’s 245 First St. location in Cambridge’s Kendall Square neighborhood, according to a statement. It continued the process by integrating key green building features into the project, including recycling more than 80 percent of construction waste materials; using Energy Star equipment, energy-efficient light fixtures and occupancy sensors to conserve energy; using low-flow plumbing fixtures to save water; and incorporating low-emitting finish materials to produce a healthy working environment.
"Working with The Forsyth Institute on this significant relocation project has been particularly enjoyable," said Rob Quigley, principal, ARC. "Our aim was to provide their researchers with a top-notch scientific facility designed to maximize flexibility while incorporating the latest in technology."
