News Alert: Closets Can Save A Marriage
Back in the good ol’ days, the secret to saving a marriage in trouble was to seek out a couples’ counselor. It was either that, or move into separate bedrooms and come to an “agreement” with your spouse about how open or closed your union actually was.
It seems like these days, the way to make amends for always working late, not saying “I love you” enough and constantly nagging about not spending enough time with the kids is to pimp your closets. A recent Wall Street Journal article reported that some couples are spending close to six-figures to turn their closets into their own personal hideaway – a place where they can relax, booze it up and keep their distance from pesky loved ones.
One Hollywood movie producer – of such gems as “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure” and “Save the Last Dance” – said the closets in his Beverly Hills’ digs are representative of how good his marriage actually is. The Teller likes to rely on Oprah spawn Dr. Phil’s marriage advice: “You don’t fix things by fixing your partner.” In which case, giving your closet(s) an $82,000 makeover makes perfect sense.
These “boutique closets” are described as an accessible luxury niche – and more. A personal closet (that is, if you’re lucky enough not to have to share one with your spouse) is the new home-away-from home within a home. Still with us?
Apparently these closet renovations can cost “as little as” $3,000, but The Teller seriously doubts that those wanting to put a mini-bar, Jacuzzi, crystal chandelier and vanity area in this space are willing to go the Container Store route. Instead, they’re choosing specialists such as a California Closets, which experienced a 6 percent rise in business last year.
The Teller won’t be renovating any closets in the near future, but does know that when trouble creeps in with that special someone, all that’s needed is a good night out on the town. What a novel idea.
