Ivy League Livin’
A renowned expert on business strategy and innovation has picked up a penthouse condo on Boston’s Commonwealth Avenue for $4 million. Vijay Govindarajan, the Earl C. Daum 1924 Professor of International Business at Dartmouth College’s Amos Tuck School of Business, bought the 4,140-square-foot condo at 109 Commonwealth Ave. late last month.
Govindarajan purchased his new digs from Timothy P. and Mary A. Neher.
The corner unit, with an original asking price of $6.25 million, was listed by Tracy Campion of Campion & Co. Fine Homes Real Estate, and sold by Alan Fincke of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage’s Boston office.
Govindarajan has been recognized by BusinessWeek and Forbes as tops in his field. He has published seven books, written dozens of articles for journals including Harvard Business Review, and once served on the faculty of Harvard Business School.
We can’t help but wonder if the ivy creeping up the walls of his new Back Bay pad matches his Ivy League pedigree.
Broker Brokers Himself A Deal
Business must be going well for NAI Hunneman broker Carl Christie. Christie and his wife Sara recently purchased an oceanfront mansion in Nahant for more than $1.87 million. The property, located at 66 Ocean St., has more than 7,500 square feet of living space, a 2 ½ story grand ballroom (barely enough to contain The Teller’s explosive dance moves), expansive grounds, ocean views, five bedrooms and seven fireplaces.
Christie, an executive vice president and principal at NAI Hunneman, was named the company’s broker of the year in 2009. Some of Christie’s notable sales include a 250-unit apartment complex in Beverly that fetched $37 million; and the 111-unit Hyannis House Apartments in Hyannis, which traded for $11 million.
The Christies purchased the property from Christine P. Smith, and it appears they got a deal – the property was previously listed for $2.15 million. The home was listed by Steven White of William Raveis Real Estate & Home Services.
The Teller wonders if he’ll be getting an invitation to the house-warming party.
