The Opposite Of A NIMBY
The Teller’s next-door neighbor has this gorgeous backyard. It looks like the Fenway outfield over there.
We like it so much that we’ve decided to take a sledgehammer to the fence that separates our two properties, run a backhoe up in there, and slap down a nice in-ground pool. And some Italian marble would really class up the whole deal.
The Teller isn’t even nuts or anything. Turns out there aren’t any cranes downtown because all the good building sites are owned by somebody else. Thankfully, two developers are working to reverse that situation.
Up in Brighton, New Balance wants to swipe a few acres from Lowe’s. It turns out that Lowe’s cut a deal with New Balance’s neighbor to build a hardware store on the neighbor’s land. And that situation just could not be tolerated.
And on the waterfront, Don Chiofaro has figured the solution to his troubles with the city, the state and his neighbors lie beyond the boundaries of his terrible concrete garage.
Now he’s floating plans to grab a piece of the New England Aquarium’s IMAX theater, and to have Harbor Towers residents park out on some concrete skiff he wants to launch into the harbor. It’s unclear how either plan makes his proposed buildings 200 feet tall. But props for thinking outside the box. And by "box," we mean, "land you actually have title to."
