Casting Call 

Fame and Fortune usually go together like PB&J, but they seem to have been on a break last week in Boston, at least as far as real estate agents were concerned.

HGTV, a cable channel devoted to airing slickly produced and oh so easy do-it-yourself bathroom renovation instruction programs and shows with “just like you” homebuyers looking to buy private islands in the Caribbean, has been trying to drum up local interest – and cast members – for its show “My First Place” for the past couple weeks.

The network is planning to shoot several episodes in the Greater Boston area this spring and summer. Each episode of the reality show follows a first-time homebuyer as they search for, bid, and hopefully close on their new place.

But word on the street is that they were having a tough time rustling up some Bay State first-timers, with local agents too busy trying to close deals for their clients before the first-time homebuyer’s tax credit expired to spare a moment to shoo their more telegenic buyers in the direction of the make-up chair.

Now that the credit has finally expired, agents may have a little more time on their hands, and because a little television exposure never hurts, they may find themselves once again reaching for the producer’s phone number. Cindy Baggish of High Noon Entertainment is in charge of casting.

Singles, couples and families are all welcome, and if you’re still on the fence, HGTV does promise there’s a free DVD of the show in it for those who appear.
