The Village Bank’s Auburndale Community Charitable Foundation has awarded $50,000 in college scholarships to 17 graduating high school seniors from Newton and Wayland.
The foundation’s total investment in education since the program began in 1988 now totals $300,000.
Joseph Albanese Jr. of St. Sebastian’s School and Marina J. Mele of Wayland High School will receive $10,000 scholarships after completing four college years.
Candidates for the $10,000 awards were required to have demonstrated active involvement in local community and/or charitable causes.
"The Village Bank has always had a strong commitment to the community," said Kenneth C. Brennan, president and CEO. "The special $10,000 scholarships give us the opportunity to recognize local students who share that commitment."
One-time $2,000 scholarships were awarded to 15 graduating students from Newton and Wayland. The recipients are: Rebecca Kantar, Joella Debra Tepper, Jonathan Marc Levine, Julia Bailin Kobe and Natalie Coscione of Newton North High School. Andrea Trementozzi, Gabriel Schneider, Elizabeth Jarowey and Victoria Jarowey of Newton South High School also received the award.
Adam Pitel, Danielle Smith, Robert Dresser and Hannah Tally Matthews of Wayland High School and Hilary Lerner from Cambridge School of Weston and Michael Trachy of Belmont Hill School were also awarded $2,000.
