James M. ThompsonJames M. Thompson, a certified financial planner with Auburndale’s Village Financial Partners, has been elected president of the Financial Planning Association (FPA) of Massachusetts, a 900-member organization.

Thompson has contributed to building FPA programs in which a group of financial advisors from across Massachusetts volunteer pro bono financial advice to Massachusetts soldiers deploying for overseas duty and to cancer patients and their caregivers at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, according to a statement. He is also on the board of directors of CAN-DO, Citizens for Affordable Housing in Newton Development Organization Inc., a community-based nonprofit developer of affordable housing for individuals and families with low and moderate incomes.

Prior to Village Financial Partners, Thompson held senior management positions at Boston’s Scudder Investments and AARP in Washington D.C.
