A Massachusetts preservation group that annually compiles a list of the state’s most endangered historic properties has decided to focus its attention this year solely on communities affected by the June tornadoes.

The nonprofit Preservation Massachusetts has announced that it is accepting nominations for its 2011 "Most Endangered Historic Resources" program, but limiting selections to the tornado-damaged communities in Hampden and Worcester counties.

The June 1 tornadoes are blamed for three deaths and for damaging or destroying hundreds of buildings.

Benjamin Murphy, president of the Springfield Preservation Trust, told the Springfield newspaper The Republican that the tornadoes damaged several historically significant properties in the city and his group would nominate sites for the list.

The nomination deadline is Friday. (AP)
