Come 2015, TripAdvisor will move into a new 280,000-square-foot headquarters in Needham, the town where the travel website started.
The company, which calls itself the "world’s largest travel website," will be the anchor tenant for the redevelopment project known as Center 128 in Needham, which New Jersey-based Normandy Real Estate Partners is building along with Connecticut’s Greenfield Partners.
The project kicks off the firms’ redevelopment of Needham’s former New England Business Center, located between Needham’s Highland Avenue, the Newton border and Route 128. Last fall, Normandy and Greenfield commenced the redevelopment, which includes approximately 830,000 square feet of total development potential. Construction was recently finished on a 128-room, 89,740-square-foot Needham Residence Inn by Marriott Hotel at the office park.
"Today’s leading technology companies are seeking high-performance workplaces designed to support their culture, their brand and their most valuable asset – their employees," Mark Roopenian, Normandy senior vice president, said in a statement.
TripAdvisor will be relocating from its current 141 Needham St. headquarters in Newton when construction is complete in 2015. Normandy will serve as the project’s master developer. John Varholak and Ron Friedman of Richards Barry Joyce & Partners represented the park’s owners in the TripAdvisor transaction. Anne Columbia of the Columbia Group and Mark Roth of Cushman & Wakefield represented the travel company.
"As the world’s largest travel website with a world-class team, our new global headquarters will foster innovation, inspiration, and let our unique culture thrive," Julie Bradley, TripAdvisor’s chief financial officer, said in the statement. "We’re looking forward to making the move, and glad we’ve had Normandy as a partner to bring our new space to life."
