Renovations of the University of Massachusetts Lowell’s Tsongas Center were recently unveiled to the public.
During a recent special event, guests were able to view the renovations, which include a new 4,800-square-foot pavilion, an 18,000 pound video scoreboard, 70 leather-backed seats for premium ticket holders, and 60 speakers throughout the arena, according to a statement. There are also added function rooms and a hall of fame sports gallery.
"As you see the tremendous improvements to the Tsongas Center at UMass Lowell, it is clear that this is the start of realizing the true potential of this building, for campus life and the community overall," said Chancellor Marty Meehan. "With the new technology and the wide range of amenities, this venue is now equipped to take its place as the best in the region when it comes to entertainment, sports and events of all kinds, from those for families to those for our students."
The university has committed to up to $5 million in capital improvements to the center, financed through the UMass Building Authority, according to a statement. Improvements include work on the interior and exterior of the structure and the acquisition of adjacent parking lots to improve access and convenience for visitors to the Tsongas Center.
