united bankWest Springfield-based United Bank will be bringing some holiday cheer this year to needy children.

The bank is partnering with the Department of Children and Families in Springfield, Holyoke and Worcester to provide holiday gifts for local children who might otherwise not receive any, according to a statement. This is the 13th year for the Foster the Spirit program in the Springfield area, and it will be introduced for the first time this year in the bank’s new Worcester region locations.

Beginning Nov. 26, all United Bank branches will display a holiday tree decorated with tags that each represent a child’s desired present. Customers, staff and members of the public may select a tag and donate that unwrapped gift. Cash donations are also accepted in order to purchase gift certificates for movies, clothing and toys.

"Our goal is to be sure no child goes without," said Dena Hall, senior vice president of marketing and community relations. "But I am confident that, once again, those who can help, will help."

United Bank will also donate $1 (up to $1,000) for every person "likes" their Facebook page from now until Dec. 17.
