United Bank announced it will close four branches in Massachusetts and one in East Windsor in 2015.
The bank blamed the decision on underperformance, The Hartford Courant reported.
"Based on many factors, we just couldn’t make these five branches successful," said William H.W. Crawford IV, CEO of United Bank.
The closings will save the company $3 million a year. A bank spokesman told the Courant that the closing of the East Windsor branch would take place in the spring, pending approval of Connecticut banking regulators.
In addition to the 124 Main St. location in East Windsor, United plans to close two branches in Northampton, Mass. and one apiece in Northborough and Northbridge.
