Urban Edge has begun construction on the preservation and green renovation of Urban Edge (UE) Apartments, 82 units of occupied, affordable rental housing in 10 buildings at seven sites in Boston’s Roxbury and Jamaica Plain neighborhoods.

NEI General Contracting is overseeing construction of UE. The project architect is Davis Square Architects. Public funders include the commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development and the City of Boston’s HOME Program and Neighborhood Housing Trust.

Agencies supporting the project include MassHousing, Massachusetts Housing Equity Fund, Massachusetts Historical Commission, Community Economic Development Assistance Corp., Local Initiatives Support Corp. and NeighborWorks America.

The project also attracted valuable support from the Kresge Foundation, National Grid and Boston Private Bank & Trust Co.

The UE Apartments project is the latest in Urban Edge’s current development pipeline of eight renovation projects, representing a significant boost for the local economy over the next two to three years, improving housing quality and extending affordability for 515 families while reducing energy and water use and improving the environment, according to a statement.

"This project keeps our promise that all the housing developed and owned by Urban Edge will remain a growing asset to its residents, their neighborhoods and the city of Boston," said Noah Maslan, Urban Edge’s director of real estate.
