Union Square master developer US2 Assoc. and cleantech incubator Greentown Labs are co-sponsoring a speaker series as part of the redevelopment process for the Somerville neighborhood.

The events will be held at Greentown Labs and the new US2-Workbar coworking center at 31 Union Square. The partnership plans six events during the 2015 and 2016 calendar years beginning this fall designed to highlight Union Square’s redevelopment as an employment center.

The events will be free to the public and will feature leading local innovators and CEO’s discussing business start-ups and growth strategies.

US2 is in the midst of a community planning process before it submits its latest proposal for the Union Square redevelopment. The redevelopment zone spans 15 acres where up to 2.3 million square feet of commercial and residential space is planned. US2 will submit a comprehensive neighborhood plan to city officials later this year.

US2, a partnership of Chicago-based Magellan Development and Mesirow Financial, was selected last year by the city of Somerville to redevelop seven parcels in Union Square where up to 2.3 million square feet of commercial and residential space is planned.

“Union Square, with the addition of the Green Line MBTA station and redevelopment investment, is poised to become a significant jobs center,” US2 president Greg Karczewski said in a statement. “We hope this speaker series will give workers, businesses and residents the chance to interact directly with local entrepreneurs whose successful experiences can help inform, inspire and connect Union Square’s next generation of innovators and job creators.”

Greentown Labs, based in 33,000 square feet at 28 Dane St. in Somerville, is an incubator for 40 cleantech start-ups.
