The University of Southern California’s Information Science Institute has leased nearly 8,000 square feet in Waltham for its first Massachusetts location.

The institute, an affiliate of USC’s Viterbi School of Engineering, invented the domain name system for computers connected to the Internet. It has existing locations in Arlington, Virginia and Marina Del Ray, California.

NAI Hunneman Executive Vice President Steve James and Associate Patrick Grady represented the University of Southern California in the lease transaction at 890 Winter St., while landlord Clarion Partners was represented by Perry Beal of Transwestern.
