The field of competitors for the Suffolk County Registrar of Deeds was winnowed from 10 to four last night. Former Boston City Councilor Stephen J. Murphy bested his six opponents to win the Democratic nomination. He’ll face three unaffiliated candidates in the Nov. 8 election: John A. Keith, a Boston real estate agent; Joseph Donnelly, also a Boston real estate agent; and Margherita Ciampa-Coyne, a real estate paralegal.
The 28-person Registry has been operating without a Registrar since December, when Mickey Roach stepped down from the $124,000 a year job.
