Boston Mayor Marty Walsh on Jan. 15 is scheduled to release the Greenovate Boston 2014 Climate Action Plan Update, a blueprint for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the city. Boston is aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 25 percent by 2020 and 80 percent by 2050.

"We’ve been working hand-in-hand with the community to create the Greenovate Boston Climate Action Plan," Walsh said in a statement. "With this plan, Boston will lay out ambitious climate goals to make this city a healthier, more livable and sustainable city."

The release will culminate a year-long community engagement process that included a Steering Committee of 31 representatives from the private sector, neighborhoods, academia and city officials. The city also received comments via its online engagement platform, Engage.GreenovateBoston.org, and at the first Greenovate Boston Community Summit in May.

Walsh will announce the plan’s release at the Artists for Humanity EpiCenter in the Fort Point District. Incoming Chief of Environment, Energy and Open Space Austin Blackmon will serve as master of ceremonies. Blackmon takes office on January 19.

The event also will include a performance by the band Guster, and Walsh plans to dub Jan. 15 Guster Day in Boston, in honor of the band’s commitment to the environment and public service, according to a press release. It will be free to the public, but registration is required. Tickets are available online.
